The Oliveira Junior High Schools in S. João da Madeira, and in Santa Maria da Feira integrated in the group 2AN8 of the second phase of the High School Modernization Programme were inaugurated. The building and remodelling works carried out by Mota-Engil Engenharia, totalled Euro 12.6 million for Oliveira Júnior High School and Euro 13.9 million for the Santa Maria da Feira High

School.

ME inaugurated Santa Maria da Feira and Oliveira Júnior

Lucinda Ferreira, Head of the Santa Maria da Feira High School showed the new facilities to Valter Lemos, Secretary of State for Employment and Professional Training and to members of the Town Council.

The Head of the remodelled school was pleased with the improvements made and with the new conditions of the school which now has capacity for more than two thousand pupils. According to Lucinda Ferreira, “the school does not loose its identity even after sufering such huge changes. We want to be a reference school, a school of excellence. We are happy for the opportunity given to us and to another 89 schools throughout the country."

“Thermal and acoustic comfort, a building with superb technological conditions, a space with excellent working conditions with the perspective of better results” were some of the aspects highlighted by the Head of the school.

Valter Lemos assured that this refurbishment afords Santa Maria da Feira High School “the conditions of a 21 st century school which will be up to

date for the following decades. This is one of the best and biggest schools in the country." According to the Secretary of State, “everyone who comes into this school will be able to see the excellence of the conditions here. An excellence that places it amongst the best in the country with strong ties to the community in which it is integrated.”

During this school year, the school has 1500 pupils during the day and 500 studying at night and 175 teachers.

Oliveira Júnior High School in S. João da Madeira, gave a “30-year step,” said the principal Mário Coelho, and added that the works carried out, “increased the school capacity to 63 classes, thus transforming it into a “new school””.
