VERNISSAGE OF THE BOOK “CASA DA CALÇADA”
The restaurant
Largo do Paço, of Casa da Calçada, once again won a Michelin star
Last November and under the direction of chef Vítor Matos, the restaurant Largo do Paço, of Casa da Calçada, once again won a Michelin star, similarly to previous years. This prestigious gastronomy distinction confrms the quality level of the service at this restaurant which comprises a group of merely 12 that will represent Portugal in the 2012 Michelin Guide.
Also at the end of the year one of the cooks of Casa da Calçada, Duarte Eira, won the 7 th edition of the contest “Revolta do Bacalhau”. This contest took place at the Porto Hotel Management School and featured 16 fnalists in three categories: Traditional, Quick Meals and Gastronomic. Duarte Eira presented a “contemporary version of roast codfsh from Norway” and highlighted that “this award was very good and the experience was new. It is with great pride that I belong to this team of Casa da Calçada and I would like to thank all the support that I received”.
During the celebration of the 10 th
anniversary of Casa da Calçada, on 19 th November the book “Casa da Calçada – História e Vida de um Hotel Único” was launched.
The vernissage took place in a quiet environment at Casa da Calçada and was attended by the Mota family and by those who participated in the making of this book. Aguiar Branco, general manager of Casa da Calçada, and Elizabeth Sousa, a former employee of the Group, were the mentors of this project which counted with the support of Ismael Gaspar, chairman of the board of directors of Mota-Engil Engenharia and was written by Carlos Oliveira Santos and Luísa Godinho.
This book aims to be a marketing tool of this hotel but also a means of showing and reporting the transformation it went through, both physically and at employee level. Everyday they take this hotel onto a higher level and pass onto the guests “the warmth and family spirit felt in this house”, says Aguiar Branco.
“Ten years after having embraced this project it is very gratifying to be
able to share the honour and pleasure of managing a hotel with these characteristics and such a dedicated team."
"To receive people for the frst time is a rather motivating challenge but there is no greater satisfaction and reward that seeing familiar faces again, some of which we have the privilege of treating as friends. This is the best reward ever because it means that we were able to create ties."
"We will seek to do more and better so that each stay is a renewed experience well worth repeating”, said Aguiar Branco.
Produced in total secrecy this edition is also a homage to the founder of Mota & Companhia, SA, who bought the property and always had the idea of turning it into a hotel.
