The work would be based on the
refurbishment of the line which would
mean replacing the structure, ballast,
sleepers and rails with any necessary work
carried out on the platform in areas where
geotechnical tests had shown up reductions
to the rigidity of the sub-structure.
The strategy proved to be correct as,
besides reducing the cost of the work by
some 30 million euros, it was also decisive
in VALE deciding to award the contract to
Mota-Engil.
