AGRIMOTA LAUNCHES
ADEGA DO SALVADOR
AND AIMS FOR
INTERNATIONALISATION
With the oldest vines in the ‘vinho
verde’ region and the finest quality, the
challenge now is to go from launching the
business through the agreement entered
into with Pernod Ricard, a world leader in
the distribution of drinks
In an edition dedicated to Manuel
António da Mota we could not but find
space in the ‘Among Us’ section to talk
about agriculture and especially the
vine cultivation which is an area that
represented a true passion for the founder
of the Mota-Engil Group.
During the sixties, when he spent most
of his time in Angola, one of Manuel
António da Mota’s major interests was the
acquisition of property near to where he
lived, which was justified by his love for his
hometown. On some of them he promoted
the cultivation of vines and the production
of the high quality wines and sparkling
wines characteristic of the region.
A PLACE WITH A HISTORY
It was with this passion for agriculture
and for Amarante that Manuel António
da Mota acquired the vines which had
previously been grown by António do
Lago Cerqueira, a prominent native of
Amarante and a widely recognised leader
of the First Republic in Portugal who
went on to study viticulture in France, as
the great enthusiast that he was for the
industry and one of the major producers
of the time.
The origins of this
wine-growing project go
back as far as 1927, in the
Casa da Calçada cellars.
