SINERGIA 44
The most recent Mota-Engil Christmas
luncheon was held at the Europarque in
Santa Maria da Feira and was attended
by some 1400 employees from the
various Group companies.
As with previous events, this one also
proved to be a moment for both unity
and conviviality where company
employees came together from both
home and abroad to meet up once again
with friends and colleagues.
The luncheon was preceded by a short
introductory speech from Rui Pedroto,
the Executive Director of the Manuel
António da Mota Foundation, which
introduced the Mota-Engil 1 + 1
campaign, which this year is dedicated
to reforestation.
The Manuel António da Mota Foundation
joined efforts with Mota-Engil for
the benefit of the Mata do Buçaco
Foundation. For each pine tree so
that for each pine-tree planted by the
company’s employees, a seedling of a
native species is to be donated to the
Foundation for the reforestation of the
area which was badly affected by the
fires of last Summer.
As is also a custom, after lunch was
served, the traditional Seniority Awards
were handed to some 240 employees for
their 15, 25, 35, 40, 50, 55 and 65 years of
dedicated service to the Mota-Engil Group.
The event ended with a speech from
the Chairman of the Mota-Engil SGPS
Board of Directors, António Mota,
which began by stressing that 2013
commemorates the Centennial of the
birth of the founder of the Mota-Engil
Group and his own father, Manuel
António da Mota. ´This is a date for
not only remembrance but also for
the presence which is always with us`
said António Mota, evoking the legacy
left by Manuel António da Mota which
continues to be reflected in the day-
to-day business of the company in its
unity, ambition, forward thinking and
the efforts of everyone who belongs to
the Group and who hope that the future
can be better than today.
Looking towards the future, the
Chairman of the Board recalled that "we
need to foster technological knowledge
and this needs to be maintained so
that the new generations can inherit
the experience of the people here (in
reference to the employees in receipt of
seniority awards). This knowledge and
experience needs to be kept in-house
so that it can be left to the younger
generation." He further added that "we
need to create a skills centre which will
preserve this knowledge".
