MOZAMBIQUE
MOTA‐ENGIL
IN THE PORT OF MAPUTO
THE WORKS WILL ENABLE THE PORT TO RECEIVE LARGER VESSELS.
Mota‐Engil Mozambique is carrying out important rehabilitation works in the Port of Maputo, with a total contract value amounting to 62 million dollars. Due to increased market demand, it
became essential to create the possibility for berthing larger vessels in Maputo.
To comply with these needs, the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) decided to redesign Pier 9, deepening the existing port depths to the level of ‐15.00 CD, and decided to reactivate piers 6, 7 and 8, which were not in operation due to their poor conservation status.
In pier 9, the works consist in improving the existing pier’s foundations, in order to enable the completion of the dredging of 50,000 m3, throughout around 460 metres in length. As for piers 6, 7 and 8,
the contract consists of the demolition of the existing structures and subsequent construction of a new pier, with the corresponding infrastructure and paving of support areas.
Works to contain the existing land lls are expected in the reconstruction of piers 6, 7 and 8, in order to also enable deep‐sea dredging to a level of ‐15.00 CD.
Mota‐Engil Mozambique thus contributes to the modernisation of the Mozambican port system.
