Identifying a clear potential to provide
a quality service in environmental
management and improvement of people’s
quality of life, Mota-Engil Mozambique
and SUMA, together with Moçambique
Capitais, promoted the establishment of
a new reference operator in the sector
of integrated waste management to the
Mozambican market, named ECOLIFE.
Taking the first steps in the Mozambican
market but with about 20 years of
experience gained by the participation
of SUMA in the consortium, which is
leader in Portugal in the sector of waste
management, Ecolife managed to obtain
its first contract by the end of 2013, worth
262 million meticais, the equivalent to 9
million dollars, thereby realizing in the
best possible way the bet made by its
shareholders in Mozambique.
During the symbolic ceremony of
presenting the company and launching
ECOLIFE STARTS
OPERATIONS
IN MAPUTO
The contract signed for a period
of five years is a milestone symbolizing the
start of operations of the Mota-Engil Group
in the area of waste management
in Mozambique
the agreement, which took place in
the City Hall of Maputo, Mayor David
Simango, revealed to be “hopeful that
from this moment on, the collection of
solid waste may be taking a substantial
turn for the better.”
The Municipal Councilor for Salubrity
and Graveyards, Florentino Ferreira,
and the ambassador of Portugal in
Mozambique, José Augusto, were also
present in the ceremony, besides other
representatives of Ecolife shareholders
and guests from business circles.
On behalf of Ecolife, the Chairman of the
Board of Directors, Cardoso Muendane,
said a few words, highlighting that
the company is “aimed at fostering
environmental
sustainability
and
answering before the management
activities of the entire lifecycle of
wastes in Mozambique”, adding that
Ecolife is committed “in using the best
