technological solutions within the scope
of waste collection”, finally thanking
to the Maputo City Hall “for the trust
bestowed, acknowledging us as partners
in order to turn the city of Maputo in
an even more beautiful city, where its
citizens feel pleasure in living.”
Also present at the ceremony was
Jorge Rodrigues, Chairman of the
Board of Directors of SUMA, reference
shareholder of ECOLIFE, that underlined
the commitment in this partnership
by the firm and by the Maputo City
Hall in order to increase the levels
of health and public hygiene in the
city of Maputo, increasing the life quality
standard of the resident populations.
“We think there is an opportunity
to improve the situation. To that end,
it’s obvious we are counting with
the help of the population, by respecting
the equipment benefiting the work
efficiency.”
Finally, Aníbal Leite, Chairman of
Mota-Engil Mozambique, considers the
start of operations of Ecolife “a milestone”
for the Mota-Engil Group since it is the
first contract in this area in Mozambique,
also adding that “it is a contract of
great responsibility because of the high
expectations, because the city needs
an improvement at this level.” Whilst
aware of the responsibility, he ended
with a confident tone saying that “we
believe Ecolife will be successful, and
I think that, because of the proximity
with people, Ecolife will consolidate
what we want, which is growing with the
Mozambicans.”
On that occasion it was also possible to
get acquainted with Ecolife fleets and
equipment which, under the signed
contract, will serve a community of
about 130,000 inhabitants along a
14 kilometre route collecting solid
wastes in the downtown, Alto Maé,
Malhangalene, Polana areas and also
in part of the Coop and Sommerschield
neighborhoods, having nine trucks and
more than 1,000 containers, in an initial
activity which is estimated to promote
the daily collection of 130 tons of waste
and its transportation to the Hulene
municipal waste site.
In order to comply with the contract,
Ecolife hired 35 Mozambican employees
and made an initial investment of
2 million dollars.
“A milestone for the
Mota-Engil Group since
it is the first contract in
this area in Mozambique.”
