With amaximumheight of 40metres, a 400
metre crest, a volume of 1,355,000 cubic
metres
and a structure for discharge of
the dam which involved the application of
8,200 cubic metres of cement, the damwas
constructed in compliance with the most
rigorous quality and safety standards.
At a cost of more than 110 million “reais” -
almost 34 million euros – the contract was
completed in 1010 days without a single
accident which was duly recognised by
Angloamerican.
The Mina-Rio tailings dam project
for Angloamerican was completed in
November.
Awarded to ECB in February 2011,
this contract in the interior of the state
of Minas Gerais is a structure which
is fundamental for Angloamerican's
Minas-Rio iron-ore mining project
in Conceição do Mato Dentro and
which is designed to have an initial
production capacity of 26.5 million
tonnes per year.

ECB Completes project
in Minas Gerais for
Angloamerican
A structure which
is fundamental for
Angloamerican's Minas-Rio
iron-ore mining project
metres of vertical signs, 26,918 metres
of metal guards, 68,619 metres of New
Jersey-type crash barriers, 75 kilometres
of fences, 2,326 tree and bush plantings
and lighting.
The contract also calls for the building
of a 600 metre long bridge with 8 x 40.25
metre spans with two way road with five
beams each followed by a bridge execu-
ted through the cantilever method with a
total length of 280 metres and a central
span of 130 metres.
With a total value of 165 million euros,
this is the biggest contract yet for the
Group in this market.
In Brazil, Mota-Engil, in partnership
with its subsidiary ECB and Engesur is
managing the contract to widen, renew
and improve the capacity and safety of a
stretch of the BR 381/MG (North) highway
in the state of Minas Gerais covering the
junction with the MG 435 (Caeté).
The contract design and construction
and extends for 39.3 kilometres in the
metropolitan area of the state capital
Belo Horizonte.
The contract includes seven intersections
and civil engineering works including
overpasses and underpasses, three metallic
pedestrian walkways, 273 kilometres
of drainage, 199,781 square metres
of horizontal markings, 1,428 square
