MOTA-ENGIL IN THE WORLD
SINERGIA 44
Anyone visiting the offices of Mota-Engil
Peru will find that there are diverse
technical departments which fit into the
central structure in a working environment
where interpersonal relationships are
encouraged and which has resulted in a
strong organisational culture.
The investments made over recent years
were aimed at integrating Mota-Engil Peru
into the technical fields of engineering for
which the company is known in other parts
of the world and which are gradually and
increasingly an affirmation of these teams
and these segments’ integration into the
competitive construction industry in Peru.
In this context we interviewed Nuno
Rafael who is the manager in charge of
Foundations and Geotechnics at Mota-
Engil Peru who, at 33 years of age, has
been with the Mota-Engil Group for the
past 11 years ever since graduating in
Civil Engineering.
After having taken part in the extension
project for the Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto,
“WE ARE LEADERS
IN THE FIELD OF
FOUNDATIONS AND
GEOTECHNICS IN PERU”
Interview with
Nuno Rafael of Mota-Engil peru
which was his first practical experience,
he then went on to work on the Porto
underground system and the Costa de Prata
toll-road before his first overseas experience,
which took place in Romania between 2007
and 2009, followed by work in Spain; he
was then sent in 2011 to Peru to deal with
the challenge of working on the contract at
Antamina in Peru for three months.
With the opportunity created by Vieira
Simões, responsible for the technical
department of Foundations and Geo-
technics in Portugal, who he claims to have
learned a lot from, he flew off and upon
arrival in Peru, he soon realised that there
was an opportunity to expand the business
of Mota-Engil Peru in this technical area.
With the investment plan approved and the
challenge of staying on in Peru accepted,
the expectation was that the majority
of the work would be carried out for the
company itself, but he discovered, on the
contrary, that the work would be with major
companies, including Grana Y Montero,
Odebrecht and Cosapi.
