MARCH 2014
After three years in the country Rafael
now sees that he seized the opportunity
“at the right time. I feel very comfortable
with Mota-Engil, where I have learned so
much. I am an ambitious person and I’m
anxious to expand my skills so I feel that I
give good returns to the company. I could
not feel more at home”, he says, stressing
that these technical areas have great
potential for growth, not only in Peru but
throughout Latin America because, as he
states, “it is in the technical areas where
we stand out in the market because of our
skills and experience, our competitiveness
along with our equipment, which are the
factor that gives us our edge”.
After what he calls a hurried entrance
into the market, Rafael affirms that “right
now we are the leaders in Foundations
and Geo-technics in Peru. We have highly
skilled personnel with anything from
20 to 25 years experience in the field
and that has been a major factor in our
development”, which he illustrates with
hard facts, referring having exceeded
in 2012 and 2013 the goals set, with a
turnover of 17 million dollars last year.
For 2014, “our project portfolio already
includes the projects necessary to reach
our annual target”.
Taking on a significant investment in the
field of training, as with the entire Mota-
Engil Peru organisation, the Foundations
and Geo-technics department has
developed a specific plan by encouraging
the formation of teams with different
levels of experience and skills, to drive
the integration of personnel in Peru,
which has been very positive.
Seeking to maintain the growth and
consolidation of the department in the
Peruvian market as a provider of quality
engineering services, Rafael now has set
himself the objective of continuing to work
on the most representative contracts in the
Peruvian market, claiming that it would
be a major achievement for Mota-Engil
Peru to be a part of the contract to build
lines 2 and 4 of the Lima underground
which are due to start in 2014.
Finally, he stressed the challenge which
international mobility represents for other
colleagues, understanding that, although
demanding “it is an opportunity for
personal and professional development
for civil engineers” and that in his own
case “it was only after beginning my
international career that everything
became much easier”.
