DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTRACTS
WON BY MOTA-ENGIL IN COLOMBIA
Asked to describe the contracts currently
underway in Colombia, he began with the
CRI - Centro de Reabilitação Integrado
(Integrated Rehabilitation Centre). “This
is a contract which has a great deal of
symbolism due to it being the result
in part of a South Korean government
donation recognising the contribution
made by the Colombian military in the
Korean War some 50 years ago. Around
800 guests attended the contract award
ceremony which put a great deal of
responsibility on us."
It is equally important for the Group
because it was our first contact with this
market, which, being held in Bogota,
gave us firsthand knowledge which was
fundamental for us to be able to react
without delay to any variables which
might arise in an initial contract in a new
market.”
Alexandre Bernardo has no doubt about
the deciding factor in the winning of the
contract: “it was all down to the stress
on quality”. He points out BIM as the
simulation tool with which the company
was able to present the project and
convince the customer. At this stage, “the
support from the Mota-Engil Engenharia
structure in Portugal was fundamental.”
Considering that the contract only has
two Portuguese staff members, – the
project manager João Dias and the general
manager Luis Pinho – Alexandre Bernardo
states that “the team has demonstrated
a capacity for adaptation and flexibility
in working within local procedures with
the competencies and most productive
construction techniques that we have
sought to implement”, concluding that “the
contract – in global terms – has proved very
positive following the initial adapting to the
site, achieving production performances in
accordance with the proposal, considered
to be one of the outstanding capabilities of
In Colombia since April 2012 and
with an extensive knowledge of the
construction industry as a result of
the 21 year presence in the Mota-Engil
Group, Alexandre Bernardo is aware
that, in spite of the contracts recently
won, the present is both difficult and
demanding for Mota-Engil Colombia
due to the level of competition that
there is in the country which renders it
difficult to do business after such a short
time in the market.
Following the weekly team meeting
held every Friday, Alexandre Bernardo
granted us an interview which helped us
to get to know about the current business
activity of Mota-Engil Colombia and the
targets set for 2014.
