the majority of economic development in
the country, with 22 million inhabitants.
INAUGURATION AFTER THE
REFURBISHMENT WORK ON THE
BOULEVARD LÁZARO CÁRDENAS
Mota-Engil Mexico has carried out the
work of refurbishment of the Boulevard
Lázaro Cárdenas in the city of Xalapa in
the state of Veracruz under a design and
build contract worth 22 million euros, the
official inauguration being attended by the
Governor of the State of Veracruz, Javier
Duarte de Ochoa.
As one of the city’s main arteries, 12
kilometres in length and with a profile
varying from 3 x 3 to 2 x 2 lanes and
with 60 thousand vehicles using it on a
daily basis, the road was badly in need of
renewal. The contract called for its re-
surfacing, partly with a rigid covering
and partly with asphalt, the renewal of
the drainage system, modernisation of
the lighting and the signalling system
(using LEDs and an intelligent power
management system), landscaping of
the verges and the installation of urban
furniture.
Solutions unknown in Mexico were
employed such as the use of glass-fibre
mesh to strengthen the asphalt surface and
to extend the longer-term life of the surface.
Principal quantities used on the contract:
›
Concrete on the rigid surface:
49,000 m

awarded two further contracts for the
refurbishment of motorways belonging to
the public operator, CAPUFE – Caminos y
Puentes Federales de Ingresos y Servicios
Conexos, worth a total of 23 million euros.

La

motorway
stretch connecting Isla - Is la to Acayucan,
23.5 kilometres long as well as the
refurbishment of the Acatzingo-Cd.
Mendoza motorway, some 44.5 kilometres,
long.
Thecompanyhadpreviouslydemonstrated
its capacity for completing contracts on
time and with the quality required.
This level of quality is the result of the
use of the two bituminous concrete
production facilities operated by the
company, with capacities of 260 and 160
tonnes per hour respectively and the only
ones of their type in Mexico. Mota-Engil
Mexico has proved itself to be a major local
player in the field of the refurbishment of
motorways using bituminous concrete.
Mota-Engil Mexico was
awarded the concessio
for the construction,
operation, maintenance
and conservation of the
