and communications to support round-
the-clock operations using the new
charging system.
During the public bidding competition
Ascendi made remote access to its
systems available to demonstrate to the
Illinois Tollway Agency the potential of
the system proposed by Accenture in an
operational environment.
The back-office products developed
by Ascendi were earlier given various
national and international awards
including an SAP Quality Gold Award, an
IDC CIO Award in 2011 and an IDC CIO
Award in 2013.
The awarding of this major contract
to Accenture reinforces the public
and international acknowledgement
of the quality of the toll support and
management solutions developed jointly
with Ascendi.
The Illinois Tollway Agency – a public
body running the state’s toll-roads – has
awarded the contract to supply and
maintain the back-office toll-road mana-
gement system to Accenture for six years.
The winning system is very similar to
that used by Ascendi for running its toll
charging system which was developed by
Accenture jointly with Ascendi with the
intention of dealing with the demands
of the entirely computerised Portuguese
toll-road system, a process which proved
to be highly innovative at a global level.
The contract awarded to Accenture for
almost 44 million dollars requires the
employment of the tools necessary for
processing and customer support by 2015
including notification of non-payment
of tolls together with the running of
the processes for the charging of almost a
billion dollars/year in tolls from a network
of four motorways with more than
1.4 million users daily.
The Illinois Tollway Agency aims to
provide greater transparency in the
provision of information including
improvements to the monitoring system
