A LIFE STORY WHICH PROVIDES
INSIGHTS INTO PORTUGAL AS WELL
AS THE WORLD BEYOND
Bringing together the historical events which
were a part of the life experience of Manuel
António da Mota, the exhibition is separated
into six sections covering a long period
and illustrated with photographs, film and
multimedia and interactive elements which
permit visitors to the exhibition to discover
different types of experiences brought to life
with the story of one man and the group of
companies which he founded, combining
with events in Portugal and theworld beyond
over a hundred years of history.
Starting the tour of the exhibition in
Codeçoso – the birthplace of Manuel António
daMota – unique stories are set out including
the financing in 1962 of the extension to the
airport at Luanda, at the time the greatest
external financing in the then Portuguese
colony and for which he travelled the world
to achieve or the contract for regularization
of the Lower Mondego riverbed which, as
one of the major contracts in Portugal of all
of the 20
th
century, was a major milestone in
the company’s development, marking the
start of business in the Portuguese market
at the end of the 1970s after thirty years
working exclusively in Angola.
Comprising numerous and varied
attractions, the exhibition also uses
multimedia platforms to set out the process
of internationalisation and diversification
of the Mota-Engil Group over the past
few decades including documentary film
covering stories which were lived through
and recounted in first person by some of the
protagonists who experienced at first hand
some of the most important moments in
the development of the Mota-Engil Group,
including representatives of the Mota family
as well as directors who, through their
testimony, contribute to getting to know the
Group better. Forming part of the heritage
of the Mota-Engil Group and an institutional
