INAUGURATION OF THE
HEINEKEN BREWERY
MOTA‐ENGIL MOZAMBIQUE COMPLETED THE PROJECT IN TEN MONTHS.

During a visit to the Netherlands, the President of the Republic of Mozambique challenged Heineken to build a brewery in Mozambique. This challenge was accepted by the world‐famous brewery company.
In 2017, Mota‐Engil Africa – Mozambique was chosen as the general contractor for the construction of the aforementioned factory within 10 months, which constituted a record in the construction of Heineken factories in the entire African continent (the previous record was 12 months). This was especially noted
and praised by Heineken’s head office, and enabled Heineken Mozambique
to start producing a new beer brand (Txilar), which became a singular case
of commercial success in the country
in just a few months, having already dethroned the country’s most renowned beers, such as 2M, in the sales ranking.
It should be noted that in the marketing campaign that Heineken Mozambique launched to promote this new beer brand, one of the aspects highlighted is the fact that the launch of Txilar involved the construction of a new factory from scratch in Mozambican territory.
The work involved earthworks and earth movements (G5, G7 base soils), amounting to approximately 700 thousand euros, in an area of 8 h and moving 38,000 m3, foundations (execution of plinths and foundation
slabs for the main facilities) amounting to around one million euros and the construction of facilities, including pathways, underground networks and other specialty works, for a total amount of around 9.2 million euros.
One of the many aspects worthy of note was the fact that the goal of one thousand hours worked without accidents was achieved, ensuring the creation of local jobs and with proper monitoring and technical training.
The construction of this factory consolidates the role of Mota‐Engil Africa – Mozambique as a relevant player in
the construction of large‐scale industrial facilities in the country.
