ASTA´s educational and socio- -therapeutic work, in a community environment of a deeply-rooted rural nature, seeks to harmoniously reconcile useful and productive work to the extent of the capabilities of each one, with the preservation of family and group values.

In addition to a number of buildings which includes occupational workshops, a home, a playground and a therapeutic pool, ASTA rebuilt several houses in the village of Cabrera, County of Almeida, seeking the autonomy and independence of persons and families which it shelters, contributing at the same time toward the revitalization of the countryside.

In a work of a great interconnection between its social goals, the recovery of agriculture and respect for environmental values, the ECO-ASTA project has taken advantage of abandoned farmland to provide food self-sufciency to the community, occupy its members in a useful and productive manner, and reinforce the ties that bind man to the land, by promoting organic horticulture and composting of organic waste.

We congratulate ASTA, and the other fnalist institutions distinguished with Honourable Mentions, and all other candidate institutions that fght every day for a fairer, more cohesive and united Portugal.
