Portuárias) decided to expand its
port operations by opening a second
terminal, the need to employ the latest
technology to compete with other major
ports in Portugal was clear.
A system would be needed which would
permit the rapid turnaround of grain
shipments arriving from the United
Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and
Eastern Europe and the speedy transfer
to storage silos for distribution. Sograin
would also need a system to handle the
300 lorries arriving on the site daily.
“We were looking for a speedy system
which would reduce personnel and
other costs”, explained Nelson Santos,
director of Sograin.

parameters set to permit the monitoring
of the product from the container in
which it arrived to the end-user who
ordered the product, the information
being recorded by the operator and
linked to an RFID card which is given
to each driver.
From all of this computerised
information all vehicles will be held
in a specified area until being called

automatically manages the quantities of
grain to be loaded on the vehicle with all
of the respective documentation being
printed for the driver on exit.
Speaking on behalf of Sograin, Nelson
Santos who introduced the system, the
