LEIRIA PINE FOREST IS BEING REFORESTED BY VIBEIRAS IN THE CENTRE OF THE COUNTRY: LEIRIA, PEDRÓGÃO AND DUNAS DE QUIAIOS.

D evastated by the fires in 2017, with almost 9,476 hectares
destroyed (86% of the total), the Leiria Pine Forest is being reforested by Vibeiras, which is proud to be one of the companies responsible for cleaning and planting 350 ha of forest in the centre of the country: Leiria, Pedrógão and Dunas de Quiaios.
The contract, promoted by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), provides for the preparation of the land and for the planting of 350,000 maritime pines, 10,000 stone pines
and a riparian gallery of about 2 km, composed of alder and ash.
The objective is to implement a few operations aimed at improving the balance of the forest, thus promoting the rehabilitation of the burnt area,
re‐establishing the sustainability and ecological stability of this forest area,
as well as the recovery and regeneration of the specific landscape of the Leiria National Forest.
In a reforestation action of the burnt area in the Leiria Pine Forest, the Aga Khan Foundation was one of the many entities that associated themselves
to this cause and planted, with the collaboration of Vibeiras, a few dozen stone pines.
This symbolic ceremony took place
in January 2018, after the diplomatic representative of Imamat Ismaili in Portugal, Nazim Ahmad, connected to the Aga Khan Development Network, delivered the amount of 100 thousand euros to ICNF, as a contribution to the reforestation of the Leiria Pine Forest.
