selected soils; the rolling surface (wear layer) was based on the application of double‐surface covering.
Finally, the road has been equipped
with adequate horizontal and vertical road signs, and the sensitive points are protected by safety guards, allowing a perfectly safe circulation, both during the day and at night.
The importance of this section, which represented an investment of 67.8 million euros, for the whole Zambezia province is worth mentioning, due to the reduction of the feeling of the local communities
of being in the interior of the country, cancelling the isolation, as well as the reduction of the travel time to other locations, reducing the cost of transport.
The existence of this new section ensures the flow of agricultural products – the population’s main source of income – to other provinces in Mozambique, as well as to neighbouring Malawi.
The so‐called “Nacala – Malawi road corridor” is thus definitively completed, enabling trade, with the consequent reduction in the cost of living of the population and providing an impetus to economic development in the region.
The route now inaugurated, is part
of the axis next to
the border that separates Mozambique from Malawi.
