THE 3RD STAGE OF THE TOROMOCHO TAILINGS DAM
THE WORK WAS CARRIED OUT USING INNOVATIVE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS THAT ALLOWED THE OPTIMISATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION TIME.
Mota‐Engil Peru completed the construction of the third phase of the Toromocho Dam expansion project for the client Minera Chinalco Peru (MCP).
The work consisted of raising the Tailings Dam by 21 m and had two phases: Phase 3 A and Phase 3 B, with 81,000 m3 of concrete, 9 million m3 of
earth movements and complementary geotechnical work.
During the execution of the work, Mota‐Engil Peru used several techniques that enabled optimising the dam’s construction time, which in the meantime had also been applied in other projects.
It is expected that this dam will be able to store up to 124 million m3
of tailings and ensure the operation of the Toromocho Mine in the coming years.
