the construction of 130 km and the rehabilitation of 180 km of the Nacala corridor, stands out. Additionally, we are carrying out the maintenance and rescue of the Nacala corridor and providing mining services. These works were carried out for the Brazilian company VALE, the second largest mining company in the world and the largest private company in Latin America, with head office in Brazil and operations in the five continents.
THE MINING OPERATION FOR VALE
Regarding the mining projects for VALE, Aníbal stated that “we are carrying out services that include drilling, supply of explosives, loading and transportation of waste rock and coal in the mining project for coal extraction at the mine
in Moatize”, mentioning that as a result of the work now done “VALE has recognised our technical competence, with some of our methodologies presented as examples, which, taking into account VALE’s global dimension
and expertise, leaves us very motivated, although we have to continue to be
very demanding and rigorous and continue in this sharing of “intelligence and expertise”, which has been very enriching for both companies, because we like to be challenged by the best, especially by clients, such as VALE, who help us to be increasingly better. Our commercial relationship is already long, having started with the contract for the reconstruction of the Nacala Corridor, between Mozambique and Malawi, which took place between 2012 and 2014,
and the relationship has recently been extended with contracts in Brazil.”
FUTURE POTENTIAL IN OIL & GAS
With the world’s eyes set on the
launch of the LNG project in Northern Mozambique, to be developed by Anadarko and the Exxon/Eni and Galp consortium, the construction of the necessary infrastructure is expected
to start in 2020, with Aníbal Leite stating that “several tenders, that we
are studying and competing for, have already emerged, and we obviously have great expectations. Additionally, Mota‐Engil participated in the first works awarded by ENI in Palma for the installation of support infrastructures. We carried out the hospital clinic and several infrastructure works at the
