Mota‐Engil Engenharia e Construção was the company selected for the contract
to waterproof the upstream wall of the Paradela dam.
The dam, located in the municipality
of Montalegre, is the fourth level of the hydroelectric project of the Cávado and Rabagão rivers. Built in 1958 and with
a height of 110 m, it is a rock‐fill dam waterproofed in the upstream face with a reinforced concrete wall. EDP launched a negotiated procedure for the contract award of the works seeking to ensure greater efficiency in the hydroelectric project.
With a contract value of 4.1 million euros and a term of seven months, the contract requires the supply and installation
of a non‐adherent geomembrane
waterproofing system in the upstream wall of the Paradela dam, guaranteeing the full waterproofing of the area covered for a period of no less than 30 years and with a warranty on the materials and installation of no less than 10 years. For this purpose, a PVC membrane with a minimum thickness of 3.0 mm coupled, in its manufacture, with a geotextile of at least 500 g/m2 will be used.
The waterproofing system will also include a drainage system, operating behind the geomembrane and built using a geonet, whose minimum characteristics cannot be lower than those of the Tenax Tendrain 1000/1 product.
As the leader of the Portuguese domestic market and with an extensive track
