I n 2017, AngloGold Ashanti, a recognised international
company in the mining sector, awarded Mota‐Engil Africa a long‐term
contract (56 months) for the rendering
of mining services. These began in November 2017 and include drilling and removal works using explosives, and excavation, loading, and transportation of ore and waste in AngloGold Ashanti’s gold mine called Siguiri, in Guinea.
With a concession area of 1,500 km2 in the relatively remote district
of Siguiri, about 850 km northeast
of the country’s capital, Conakry,
this area has a high potential for gold mining, the most important economic activity in the region.
The Siguiri mine, an open‐pit oxide multiple mine, is AngloGold Ashanti’s sole operation in the Republic of Guinea,
