MOTA-ENGIL DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ENSURES
EXPANSION OF CAUCEDO PORT
THE PROJECT REQUIRED THE PRACTICE OF AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION, AS IT IS ESPECIALLY DEMANDING DUE TO THE ESTABLISHED SHORT PERIOD OF EXECUTION.
WORKS ON SITE
INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES:
• Excavation of natural rock by the sea;
• construction of more than 300 pier foundation piles, consisting of two lines of onshore piles and one line of offshore piles (using a floating positioning structure);
• installation of sheet-piles from the ground between the sea piles;
• filling of the excavated area;
• construction of reinforced concrete support beams for port cranes (the construction of the beams will be on land and at sea, the latter being manufactured with a metal formwork structure designed specifically for the project).
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Mota‐Engil Dominican Republic executed the first job for the client Dubai Ports (DP World), a port management company with more than 70 ports worldwide, winning a contract of over 34 million dollars for the expansion works of Caucedo Port.
The project has a challenging deadline, as the works are expected to be completed by the end of 2019. To this end, the Mota‐Engil Group presented the customer with an innovative solution,
in which all works are carried out on land, eliminating the need for maritime equipment, which represents an added value for the customer, since the works do not interfere with the daily operation of the port.
Mota‐Engil thus continues to expand its order book in the Latin American market, with projects of high technical demand.
